THE MOST IMPORTANT MOLECULE TO STAY HEALTHY
Glutathione is the most important molecule you need to stay healthy and prevent disease. Yet you've probably never heard of it. It's the secret to prevent aging, cancer, heart disease, dementia, etc., and necessary to treat everything from autism to Alzheimer's disease.
There are more than 115,000 medical articles on glutathione on www.pubmed.gov (a leading online center for biomedical research), in contrast to about 50,000 articles of vitamin C, underscoring the importance of this molecule (glutathione).
Ironically, your doctor most likely doesn't know how to address the epidemic deficiency of this critical life-giving molecule. The good news is that your body produces its own glutathione. The bad news is that poor diet, pollution, toxins, medications, stress, trauma, aging, infections and radiation all deplete your glutathione. Scientists have discovered that at about age 20, glutathione production starts to decline, and it goes down about 1% per year. The toxins in the air we breathe, the food we eat, the stress we experience, radiation and pharmaceutical medications are some of the many contributors to the accelerated depletion of our body’s glutathione. This leaves you susceptible to unrestrained cell dysfunction and disintegration from oxidative stress (free radicals), infections and cancer. Consequently, your liver gets overloaded and damaged, making it unable to do its job of detoxification. It has been observed that glutathione deficiency is found in nearly all very ill patients. These include people with chronic fatigue syndrome, heart disease, cancer, chronic infections, autoimmune disease, diabetes, autism, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, arthritis, asthma, kidney problems, liver disease, etc. Over the years we have come to realize that our ability to produce and maintain a high level of glutathione is critical to recovery from nearly all chronic illness and to preventing disease and maintaining optimal health and performance.
In its reduced form, glutathione passes through our cells, gathering up toxins, free radicals and heavy metals, and excreting them from the body. Once this action is performed the glutathione molecule enters its oxidized form. Unlike other antioxidants, glutathione can be recycled once in its oxidized form through the methylation process.
WHAT IS GLUTATHIONE?
Glutathione is a very simple molecule that is produced naturally all the time in your body. It is a combination of three simple building blocks of protein or amino acids - cysteine, glycine and glutamine. The secret of its power is the sulfur (SH) chemical groups it contains. Sulfur is a sticky molecule. It acts like flypaper and all the bad things in the body stick onto it, including free radicals and toxins like mercury and other heavy metals. Normally glutathione is recycled in the body, except when the toxic load becomes too great.
Genes involved in glutathione metabolism can be tested. These are the genes involved in producing enzymes that allow the body to create and recycle glutathione in the body. These genes have many names, such as GSTM1 (Glutathione S-transferase Mu 1), GSTP1 (glutathione S-transferase pi 1), GSTT1 (glutathione S-transferase theta 1) and more. These genes are impaired in some people for a variety of important reasons. Humans evolved in a time before the 80,000 toxic industrial chemicals found in our environment today were introduced into our world, before electromagnetic radiation was everywhere and before we polluted our skies, lakes, rivers, oceans, etc., with mercury and lead. That is why most people survived with the basic version of the genetic detoxification software encoded in our DNA, which is mediocre at ridding the body of toxins. At the time humans evolved we just didn't need more. Who knew we would be poisoning ourselves and eating a processed, nutrient-depleted and free radical-laden diet thousands of years later? Because most of us didn't require additional detoxification software then, almost half of the population now has a limited capacity to get rid of toxins. These people are missing GSTM1 function - one of the most important genes needed in the process of creating and recycling glutathione in the body. Nearly all very sick patients are missing this function.
The one-third of our population that suffers from chronic disease is missing this essential gene. That includes the original author of substantial aspects of the initial parts of this 7-page paper (especially pages 1 & 2) - Mark Hyman, M.D. About twenty years ago he became mercury poisoned and suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome due to this very problem. His GSTM1 function was inadequate and he didn't produce enough glutathione as a result. Eventually, his body broke down and he became extremely ill. This is the same problem Dr. Hyman sees in so many of his patients. They are missing this critical gene and they descend into disease as a result. GSTM1 and GSTT1 are deleted in a high percentage of the human population, with major ethnic differences. Among Europeans, GSTM1 and GSTT1 deletion frequencies range from 40 to 60% and from 13 to 26%, respectively. Moreover, several studies have established a causal relationship between inappropriate functioning or absence of one or more of these genes (often referred to as detoxification genes) and high rates of cancers. This is because, the human glutathione S-transferases/ GSTs (the enzymes whose functionalities are determined by these genes) are metabolizing enzymes that play a key role in protecting against cancers by detoxifying numerous potentially cytotoxic, genotoxic and carcinogenic compounds by conjugating them to glutathione.
Glutathione and its related enzymes glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, constitute what is known as the “glutathione system.”
Free radicals are a natural byproduct of our cellular metabolic process. These free radicals pose such a threat to our health because of the damage they cause to neighboring cells. These unstable molecules are missing an electron. In an attempt to find balance they indiscriminately rip electrons from nearby cells, turning them into free radicals as well. This process snowballs, causing severe harm to our cells and interfering with normal cellular function. In fact, even if the free radical is not able to steal the electron, it may still create such a pull as to disrupt the workings of neighboring atoms and molecules.
Most experts agree that virtually every chronic illness we know of is linked to free radical-induced tissue damage. The cumulative load of free radicals is referred to as oxidative stress, corroding our body from the inside, similar to how rust accumulates and eats away at metal.
THE IMPORTANCE OF GLUTATHIONE IN PROTECTING AGAINST CHRONIC ILLNESS
Glutathione is critical for one simple reason: It recycles antioxidants. You see, dealing with free radicals is like handing off a hot potato. They get passed around from vitamin C to vitamin E to lipoic acid and then finally to glutathione which cools off the free radicals and recycles other antioxidants. After this happens, the body can "reduce" or regenerate another protective glutathione molecule and we are back in business. However, problems occur when we are overwhelmed with too much oxidative stress or too many toxins. Then the glutathione becomes depleted and we can no longer protect ourselves against free radicals, infections, or cancer and we can't get rid of toxins. This leads to further sickness and soon we are in the downward spiral of chronic illness. Glutathione is critical in helping your immune system do its job of fighting infections and preventing cancer. That's why studies show that it can help in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Glutathione is also the most critical and integral part of your detoxification system. All the toxins stick onto glutathione, which then carries them into the bile and the stool, and out of your body.
Lastly, glutathione helps us reach peak mental and physical function. Research has shown that raised glutathione levels decrease muscle damage, reduce recovery time, increase strength and endurance and shift metabolism from fat production to muscle development. If you are sick or old or are just not in peak shape, you likely have glutathione deficiency. In fact, it has been found that the highest glutathione levels are in healthy young people, lower levels in healthy elderly, lower still in sick elderly and the lowest of all in the hospitalized elderly. Keeping yourself healthy, boosting your performance, preventing disease and aging well depends on keeping your glutathione levels high. Glutathione is so important because it is responsible for keeping so many of the keys to ultra-wellness optimized. It is critical for immune function and controlling inflammation. It is the master detoxifier and the body's main antioxidant, protecting our cells and making our energy metabolism run well.
GLUTATHIONE AND YOUR SKIN
Adequate glutathione levels ensure better skin tone and a reduction in the appearance of age spots. Glutathione protects the collagen fibers from free radical damage thereby ensuring the elasticity of the skin. Glutathione protects the skin against oxidative damage which leads to wrinkles. Glutathione is therefore an excellent form of anti-aging skincare.
GLUTATHIONE PROMOTES LONGEVITY
There is a strong correlation between levels of antioxidants, especially, glutathione and longevity. High glutathione levels are associated with increased survival in living organisms
WHY IS GLUTATHIONE CALLED THE “MASTER ANTIOXIDANT”?
Glutathione does more than simply fight free radicals on its own. This antioxidant also has the ability to regenerate other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E. After these antioxidants neutralize free radicals, they become unstable radicals themselves. Glutathione helps recycle these unstable molecules, returning them to active duty.
INGESTING GLUTATHIONE PILLS
One would think it would be easy just to take glutathione as a pill, but the body digests protein; so you wouldn't get the benefits if you did it this way. Oral glutathione is too fragile to survive digestion. There is therefore little or no bioavailability for standard delivery of glutathione.
RIBOCEINE (THE RESULT OF 25 YEARS OF RESEARCH)
For years, scientists have looked for ways to effectively raise glutathione levels. They tried to supplement with glutathione pills, but glutathione cannot be effectively absorbed through the intestinal tract. They realized that glutathione must be supplemented via its essential building blocks, the amino acids cysteine, glycine and glutamine. While glycine and glutamine are readily available through regular diet, it is much more difficult to absorb the required amounts of cysteine. Until recently, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) was the most consistent means of enhancing the body’s ability of maintaining optimal glutathione levels. Many doctors use intravenous NAC to treat patients with Parkinson’s disease and acetaminophen overdoses, but these treatments are short-lived and very expensive.
What our bodies need to create glutathione is the amino acid called cysteine. We have everything else we need but we don’t have enough cysteine and we can’t supplement with cysteine effectively or get enough from foods. Prof. Herbert Nagasawa worked for 25 years to create a scientific breakthrough that allows cysteine to get into our cells so that we can create more glutathione. He combined a simple sugar molecule called ribose, which we use to produce energy, with cysteine, which we use to produce glutathione. And now we have Ribose-Cysteine or RiboCeine. RiboCeine gets into our cells, and the ribose goes off to make energy, while the cysteine goes off to make glutathione.
In conclusion, RiboCeine is the most effective glutathione support in the world, and you can only get it from Max International. Prof. Herbert Nagasawa’s research led to the breakthrough discovery of RiboCeine, which has been shown to be 300% more effective than NAC in raising glutathione levels in liver cells. It took over 25 years of research to develop RiboCeine, and there have been over 20 clinical studies and 38 patents and pending patents.
If you are over 20 years of age, and you are not on the appropriate glutathione enhancer, you may be dangerously existing!
